The Deal

Snowflake announced a $200 million, multi-year partnership with OpenAI on February 2, bringing OpenAI models including GPT-5.2 natively into Snowflake's AI Data Cloud. The 12,600 organizations using Snowflake can now run OpenAI models across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud without moving data outside their governed environment.

The partnership includes ChatGPT Enterprise access for Snowflake employees and joint development on AI agents using OpenAI's Apps SDK and AgentKit. Early customers include Canva and WHOOP.

Why It Matters

Snowflake VP Baris Gultekin frames this as "a commercial commitment anchored in real AI consumption," not speculative spending. The $200 million ties directly to customer usage—a different structure than traditional enterprise software deals.
